Joey Gase Meet & Greet

nns_joey_gase_456x362.png.mainThe Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency has partnered with the Alabama Organ Center to help sponsor Joey Gase in the upcoming Winn-Dixie 300 Xfinity Series race at Talladega on Saturday, May 2nd.

Joey’s dedication to promoting donation began in 2011 when his mother Mary Joe Gase became an organ donor after passing away as a result of a brain aneurysm. Since her death, the young man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been racing with the Donate Life logo on his car. He has forged partnerships with regional Organ Procurement Organizations to help promote donation in the areas where he races.

The MORA-Donate Life Mississippi logo will be prominently featured on the car during practice week and throughout the May 2nd race at Talladega Motor Speedway. Joey will also be visiting the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, on Wednesday, April 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will be making a guest appearance, meeting fans and signing autographs, at Nelson Hall Chevrolet in Meridian, Mississippi from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. all to promote donor awareness and his race team.

We hope you will check out his story, become his fan and show him your support. Keep following the Donate Life Mississippi Facebook page for updates!

Gulf Coast Ribbon Cutting & Gallery Night

Ribbon Cutting and Gallery Night Invitation

The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency will host an open house and ribbon cutting at the Knight Non-profit Center in Gulfport, Mississippi on April 28th, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Although MORA has had a presence and office space on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for quite some time, the new location is an important step in the growth of MORA’s scope. The event will feature artwork painted by donor families, recipients, and those on the National Transplant Waiting List who participated in the 2015, 3rd Annual Impressions of Life event held earlier in the month of April. Light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served during the event. For additional information, please contact Trisha King at tking@msora.org or 228.896.5224.

Legacy Lap 2015

Legacy Lap Digital Invitation

Donor families, recipients, and those who are on the National Transplant Waiting List will be joining the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, and the University Transplant Guild for a special afternoon remembering donors who gave the Ultimate Gift of Life and spreading awareness about the importance of organ, eye & tissue donation. The event will begin with a press conference on the lawn of the University of Mississippi Medical Center facing State Street at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, April 17th, 2015. The press conference will be an opportunity for members of the media and the public to hear first hand testimonies of donation. When the press conference adjourns at noon, a balloon release will be held in honor of donors who unselfishly gave the Gift of Life. The first ever “Legacy Lap” will follow the balloon release. Guests will be led through the hospital to the “Wall of Heroes,” an organ donation memorial wall. The “Legacy Lap” concludes back on the lawn, for the Donate Life Picnic, where food and refreshments will be served.

If there is rain, the event will be moved to the Nelson Student Union on UMMC’s Campus.

Impressions of Life 2015

The 3rd Annual Impressions of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2015, at BYO Brush Studios in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Donor families and transplant recipients will gather to paint in memory of those who were organ, eye and tissue donors. This National Donate Life Month event is hosted by the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA), and is an extremely popular yet non-traditional memorial exercise for those uniquely touched by donation, as a transplant recipient or as a donor family member.

“We are always honored to have this unique opportunity to provide a time and place where donor families and recipients can commemorate “The Gift of Life” through artistic expression,” said Anna Jacobs, a Family Care Specialist for MORA.  “Artistically painting something that represents what sometimes words cannot express is powerful.  Only these families and individuals can tell their stories of love, inspiration, and gratitude.  Some may come to honor their loved one who gave The Gift of Life while others may be painting in celebration of new life. All in all, this unselfish act of giving, and the blessing in being able to receive, is what brings them together.”

The artwork created will be displayed at various events throughout National Donate Life Month including the MORA Gulf Coast Ribbon Cutting and Open House on April 28th and at the Drive for Life Golf Tournament that will be held in June. The artwork will be returned to the families at the end of these events or, with the artists’ permission, auctioned off to raise money for MORA’s Public Education Fund.

The event’s participation is first come, first serve and intended for those who have been touched first hand by donation, either as a recipient, donor family member, or someone whom is waiting for the life-saving Gift of Life. The event will host 25-50 participants, and has been covered by media outlets every year of the event to date.

If you a donor family member, a transplant recipient, or on the National Waiting List and would like more information about attending this event, please contact  Anna or Trish at 228.896.5224.
