UMMC – Grenada to Host Balloon Release and Donor Registry Table

UMMC – Grenada will have a table set up in the front lobby for staff and members of the community to learn more about organ, eye & tissue donation and register to become donors by signing the donor registry from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, April 28th. A balloon release will be held in front of the hospital in honor of organ, eye & tissue donors and to celebrate their gift of life. We hope you can join us!

Racing for Donation 8k Starting Line _ A Visual Life by Robert SmithThe Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency held the 4th annual Racing for Donation 8k Run/Walk and Celebration of Life Picnic on Friday, April 24th at the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, 4400 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, Mississippi 39232. It was an event the whole family could enjoy as participants raced 1 kilometer for each life that can be saved through organ donation. The Celebration of Life Picnic at the finish line featured music  from Chris Gill and the Sole Shakers, food provided by Hungry Howie’s pizza and drinks from Brown Bottling Group + so much more! A balloon release was held in honor of all of our heroes who have given the Ultimate Gift of Life to save and improve the lives of others through organ, eye & tissue donation as their final legacy. The event will also featured a kid’s fun zone with a gaming truck, bounce houses, a reptile show and the Kid’s One Mile Fun Run. Everyone in attendance had a chance to win door prizes, and receive free health screenings from area providers. St. Dominic Hospital Honors Donors with Balloon Release

St. Dominic Balloon ReleaseThe Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency and St. Dominic’s teamed up to promote National Donate Life Month. St. Dominic Hospital hosted a donor registration table, providing information and answering questions about organ, eye & tissue donation, on April 21, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. A donor registration sign up sheet was available to anyone in the community and all St. Dominic Staff who would like to sign the donor registry.

The highlight of the celebration was a ceremonial balloon release to honor the six organ donors and 19 eye and tissue donors from St. Dominic’s in 2014. MORA’s Prentiss Franklin and from St. Dominic Hospital, Dr. Michael Sanders and Teresa Williams, were the guest speakers for the event.

North Mississippi Medical Center Celebrates Donate Life Month

IMG_0418North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo (NMMC) hosted a Donate Life celebration on Friday, April 17th in the main lobby. The donor quilt, featuring donors from throughout the state of Mississippi, was displayed and representatives from the Mississippi Organ Recovery Ageny (MORA) set up an donor registry table to provide the community and NMMC staff the opportunity to register as organ, eye & tissue donors.

Throughout the month of April, National Donate Life Month, NMMC has been raising awareness about the need for donation. On April 1st, NMMC raised the Donate Life flag on their campus to honor organ, eye and tissue donors, and they greeted their employees on arrival to work with donate life lapel pins in an effort to raise awareness and in celebration of National Blue & Green Day. NMMC is also promoting National Blue and Green Day in local and nearby county schools and will be giving out Donate Life stickers to the students. Tupelo Middle School Collage

The hospital has also promoted donation the entire month of April by continuously posting information on Facebook, Twitter, and by including information in the hospital newsletter. NMMC has been committed in raising awareness of donation in various departmental meetings throughout the month, and Mississippi Miracle videos, which are testimonies of those who have been touched first hand by donation, have been shown at various locations in the hospital throughout the month. NMMC is to be commended on the outpouring of support and tremendous efforts in raising awareness of the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation.IMG_0427IMG_0411

Merit Health River Oaks Hosted Balloon Release

Merit Health River Oaks hosted a balloon release in honor of those who have given the Ultimate Gift of Life and to spread awareness about organ, eye & tissue donation on Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In honor of donors and National Donate Life Month, they are also flying the Donate Life flag for the month of April.20150415_101433 20150415_101154 20150415_101240

North Mississippi Medical Center – West Point Hosts Balloon Release

IMG_0377bNorth Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) -West Point hosted a Donate Life celebration on April 16th at 10:00 a.m. The Donate Life flag was raised to fly in front of the hospital to honor organ, tissue and eye donors, and members of the community and hospital staff launched balloons to represent the donor families and lives saved by donation. The parents of tissue donor Matthew Gaskin,  Steve and Laura Gaskin, were guest speakers for the event, delivering a very meaningful message encouraging others to sign up on the donor registry. More than 13 people at the event signed the donor registry within 20 minutesof the ceremony ending. Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency’s donor registration table was set up in the hospital lobby to answer any questions and provide information.

Donate Life Night with the Mississippi Braves Hits a Homerun

Wroten and Amos Family Throw First PitchThe Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) hosted Donate Life Night at Trustmark Park in Pearl Friday, April 10th. The Mississippi Braves hosted the Tennessee Smokies with the MBraves taking home their first win of the season. Registered donors were offered discounted tickets by showing the heart on their driver’s license or donor registration card, and the first 1,000 fans through the gates received a free MBraves/Donate Life cap.

In memory of multiple organ donor Chase Wroten, his sister Ashley Bailey, father Mike Wroten, and his heart recipient Linda Amos threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Donor registry tables were set up throughout the venue for patrons to register, ask questions and get more information about organ, eye & tissue donation. The MORA logo and Mississippi Miracle testimonies were shown on the scoreboard throughout the game and in between innings.

The MBraves also wore Donate Life jerseys that were auctioned off after the game with all proceeds raised benefiting the MORA Public Education Fund to promote the need for organ, eye and tissue donation in Mississippi and across the country.  All jerseys that are still available to be bid on will be posted online.
