Donate Life Night with Biloxi Shuckers

Biloxi Shuckers TransparentFor the first time in the history of Donate Life Month in Mississippi, the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency is hosting Donate Life Night with the Biloxi Shuckers. The game will begin at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, April 21st, 2016, at MGM Park in Biloxi, but be sure to arrive a bit early. This year, the donor family of Pierce Cartwright will throw the ceremonial first pitch of the game in honor of Pierce’s legacy and gift of life to others.

The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free Donate Life/Biloxi Shuckers baseball cap. There will also be Donate Life registration tables throughout the concourse available for anyone who would like to learn more about organ, eye and tissue donation or register to Donate Life.

Impressions of Life 2016

shutterstock_248863831 [Converted]Donor families, transplant recipients, and those waiting on the National Transplant List are invited to attend Impressions of Life and paint the National Donate Life Month symbol, the sunflower, on Saturday, April 16th, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. For the first time in the event’s history, the event will be held at three different locations: Ridgeland, Hattiesburg, and Tupelo. The artwork created will be offered to the artists, but if they choose, their artwork will be displayed at various events throughout National Donate Life Month and at the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency’s Drive for Life Golf Tournament in the Fall. The artwork will be returned to families at the end of these events or, with the artists’ permission, will be auctioned off to raise monies for MORA’s Public Education Fund. Light refreshments will be served.

Legacy Lap 2016

Due to rain the Legacy Lap has been moved from the lawn facing State Street to the Norman C. Nelson Student Union on the campus of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. This is the location notated on the invitation below as the location to use in case of inclement weather. We hope to see you there!

Please join the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA), the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, and the University Transplant Guild for a special afternoon to celebrate those who have been personally touched by organ, eye, and tissue donation. The 2nd Annual Legacy Lap will be held at the Norman C. Nelson Student Union on the campus of the University of Mississippi Medical Center Friday, April 15th, 2016. The event will kick off shortly after 11:30 a.m. with a press conference to share the importance of registering to be an organ, eye and tissue donor and to share stories of donation. Donor families, transplant recipients, those on the National Transplant Waiting List, and their families and friends, will join staff to release balloons in honor of those who have given the Ultimate Gift of Life. Then, attendees will take the Legacy Lap, a walk in honor of  the Wall of Heroes. The Wall of Heroes is a special memorial wall at UMMC that recognizes organ, eye and tissue donors who left a legacy of hope to help others in need. The Legacy Lap will conclude back at the Norman C. Nelson Student Union, where food and refreshments will be served.

Donate Life Night at the Mississippi Braves

Web_Mississippi BravesCome out to the ball park! The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) is partnering with the Mississippi Braves for the third annual Donate Life Night. It will be begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 8th, 2016, at Trustmark Park in Pearl. The second home game of the season, the Mississippi Braves will be playing the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. This year, MORA is honored to have the donor family of Walker Wilbanks to throw the ceremonial first pitch of the game in recognition of Walker’s legacy and gift of life to others.

Fans that show their organ donor registration card or the “red heart” on the front of their drivers license, which denotes the carriers wish to be an organ, eye and tissue donor, can purchase field level tickets for $7 each. The first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive a free Donate Life/Mississppi Braves baseball cap that matches those being worn by the Mississippi Braves the night of the game.

The players will also be wearing custom, hero themed jerseys as a part of their “Shirts Off Our Backs Jersey Auction” program. The jerseys will feature the Donate Life, MORA, and Mississippi Braves logos, and will be auctioned off during the game. Fans with the winning bids will be escorted to the field following the game to receive the jersey from the player who will autograph the jersey for the winners. All proceeds will benefit the MORA Public Education Fund to raise awareness of the importance of registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor.

 There will also be Donate Life registration tables throughout the concourse available for anyone who would like to learn more about organ, eye and tissue donation or register to Donate Life. After the game and presentation of the jerseys, stick around for FIREWORKS!

Donate Life Mississippi Day at the Capitol

Please join the Donate Life Mississippi State Team, which includes the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, Mid-South Transplant Foundation, and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, for Donate Life Mississippi Day at the State Capitol. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 6th, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Rotunda of the Mississippi State Capitol. During the event, a press conference will be held at 2:00 p.m. All media and friends of donation are invited to attend to celebrate April 2016 being named as National Donate Life Month in Mississippi and to bring awareness of the need for registered organ, eye and tissue donors.
