Number of Referrals:
The number of patients referred by a hospital at the time of death for evaluation of donation possibility.

Number of Organ Donors:
The number of patients who donate at least one organ (heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas or small bowel) after they are pronounced brain dead and oxygen is being circulated to the remaining organs.

Number of Potential Organ Donors:
The number of patients who are pronounced brain dead and are eligible to become an organ donor.

Conversion Rate:
The percentage of patients who become organ donors, out of the entire number that can donate organs. Generally, this is the same as the consent rate, or the percentage of families who consent to donate a family member's organs after death. The conversion rate formula is: organ donors/ potential organ donors.

Number of DCD donors:
Donation After Cardiac Death donors. The number of patients who donate organs after they become cardiac dead, in an urgent medical action that allows recovery of organs just minutes after blood has ceased to flow in the donor's body. As of November 2006, Mississippi has not had a DCD donor.

Number of Tissue Donors:
The number of patients who donate tissues (such as bone, vein, skin and connective tissue) after cardiac death.
