Tee Up for Transplant Kids is a 10-hole miniature golf course, designed and built by the parents of Mississippi children who have experienced life-saving organ transplants. Proceeds from the course benefit the kids by providing funds for their participation in the biannual U.S. Transplant Games. "Trees of Life " is a statewide initiative sponsored by the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency. The goal of the program is to promote donor awareness and the lifesaving benefits of organ and tissue transplantation through tree plantings and commemorative ceremonies. When planting a "Tree of Life", a ceremony is held to celebrate the renewal of health and life given to transplant recipients while honoring donor families who gave at their time of great loss. This centers around the beauty of the tree planting. On a local level, the event generates a great deal of interest and publicity. | Transplant Games - July 2008 | ||||

The 2008 US Transplant Games will be held in Pittsburgh, PA July 11, 2008 – July 16, 2008. The Games, to be presented by the National Kidney Foundation are the largest sports event in the world for people with life-saving organ transplants. An Olympic-style event for transplant recipients, the U.S. Transplant Games celebrate the second chance at life for thousands of athletes. The event also pays special tribute to organ donors and donor families, the "true heros" who make the transplantation a possibility. In 2006 over 100 Mississippians made the trip to Louisville, Kentucky to be a part of the US Transplant Games with twenty-one Mississippi transplant athletes competing for honors. | National Donor Sabbath - November 2008 | ||||
The National Donor Sabbath is an ecumenical celebration of life in which clergy and congregations nationwide emphasize organ and tissue donation, and discuss their faith's doctrine on donation. The National Donor Sabbath is held each year during the second weekend in November. Religious leaders and congregations are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways. The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency provides donation information and materials for distribution free of charge. MORA will secure speakers, donor family members and/or transplant recipients, for congregations interested in a personal message on donation and transplantation. The month of April is observed as National Donate Life Month in an effort to help raise public awareness of the critical need for organ, tissue, marrow and blood donation. While thousands of people recognize the importance of giving the gift of life to others, the need is still great. Throughout April, the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency will be participating in numerous community events to bring attention to the need for organ and tissue donation, to honor donor families and to celebrate the miracle of transplantation. The National Donor Family Recognition Ceremony and Workshop (NDRCW) is a biennial event, scheduled for July 11 - 16, 2008 in Pittsburgh, PA. The event pays tribute to all Americans who have donated organs, tissue or bone marrow to save or enhance the lives of others. It is a unique opportunity for donor families, living donors and their families and friends to come together to share experiences and honor loved ones in a significant way.
