The Upsilon Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Itawamba Community College, in partnership with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency and North Mississippi Medical Center, invites you to participate in the 2015 Donor Challenge by registering to be an organ, eye & tissue donor. You can bring hope to the more than 122,000 Americans, 1,500 of whom are Mississippians, that are waiting for a life-saving transplant! 15.09.28_ICC PTK Volunteer Training 2The Upsilon Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Itawamba Community College (ICC) has chosen organ, eye & tissue donation as their Honors in Action Project for the 2015-2016 school year. After researching the topic over the Summer and preparing papers that were presented in their honors class early this Fall, the students have issued a Donor Challenge to their campus, other PTK chapters, and community to register as organ, eye & tissue donors.ICC FB Registration Night

After attending Donate Life Ambassador training, the students became official volunteers of the Donate Life Mississippi organization and immediately hosted a registration table at next home football game.

On Monday, October 19th, President Eaton from ICC signed a proclamation stating that October 26-30 would be Donor Awareness Week!

15.10.19_EatonThe students hosted informative presentations and registration tables to kick off the week. On Monday, October 26th, the students presented to more than 200 ICC students and faculty members on the Fulton campus and welcomed Laura Gaskin, the donor mom of Matthew Gaskin, to share her personal experience with donation. Almost 100 viewers tuned in to the presentation live via Periscope.

On Tuesday, October 27th, the students presented again, but this time to the Tupelo campus. Donor mom Julie Dickerson, whose daughter Amy gave the Ultimate Gift of Life as a tissue donor, shared her testimony and left attendees with Donate Life bookmarks and calendars in honor of Amy.

PresentationsA donor registration table will be set up Wednesday and Thursday ouside the cafeteria at the Fulton campus during lunch for those who would like to register.

Friday, October 30th, Donate Life Awareness Week will end with a Halloween Costume Contest and Donate Life registration table at the cafeteria from 11 – 1 p.m. Prizes will be given to the contest winners. See you there!
