National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was instituted by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations, which includes Donate Life Mississippi, in 2003. Celebrated in April every year, NDLM features an entire month of local, regional and national donation awareness activities to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to honor those heroes who have left a legacy that saved lives through the gift of donation.
This year, Donate Life America choose the sunflower as the national symbol of National Donate Life Month. The seeds of one sunflower has the potential to create an entirely new field of flowers. Just like the sunflower, we have the opportunity to give the gift of life when we register our decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. One organ donor can save and the heal the lives of up to 8 people through organ donation and countless others through tissue donation. A chance at new life gives beyond the recipient, and touches their friends and family for future generations.
Come out to the ball park! The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) is partnering with the Mississippi Braves for the third annual Donate Life Night. It will be begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 8th, 2016, at Trustmark Park in Pearl. The second home game of the season, the Mississippi Braves will be playing the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. This year, MORA is honored to have the donor family of Walker Wilbanks to throw the ceremonial first pitch of the game in recognition of Walker’s legacy and gift of life to others.

Fans that show their organ donor registration card or the “red heart” on the front of their drivers license, which denotes the carriers wish to be an organ, eye and tissue donor, can purchase field level tickets for $7 each. The first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive a free Donate Life/Mississppi Braves baseball cap that matches those being worn by the Mississippi Braves the night of the game.
The players will also be wearing custom, hero themed jerseys as a part of their “Shirts Off Our Backs Jersey Auction” program. The jerseys will feature the Donate Life, MORA, and Mississippi Braves logos, and will be auctioned off during the game. Fans with the winning bids will be escorted to the field following the game to receive the jersey from the player who will autograph the jersey for the winners. All proceeds will benefit the MORA Public Education Fund to raise awareness of the importance of registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor.
There will also be Donate Life registration tables throughout the concourse available for anyone who would like to learn more about organ, eye and tissue donation or register to Donate Life. After the game and presentation of the jerseys, stick around for FIREWORKS!
